Cecil A. Long | MD

Cecil A. Long, MD

Dr. Cecil A. Long is a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist and the founder of the Alabama Center for Reproductive Medicine (ACRM). Not only has he spent 30 years of his career dedicated to reproductive medicine, but he also experienced it in building his own family. He and his wife had their daughter as a result of IVF and ICSI. Dr. Long knows the type of support and care you need during your infertility journey from the start, and he considers it an honor to work with couples from infertility diagnosis to treatment and possible pregnancy through assisted reproductive technologies.

Experience

Dr. Long was the medical director of ART Fertility Program of Alabama until August of 1995. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Subspecialty Board of Reproductive Endocrinology/Infertility. Dr. Long served as an assistant professor in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS from 1990 – 1995. There, he provided infertility diagnosis and treatment for patients while also directing research in the area of embryo implantation and infertility associated with endometriosis. Dr. Long has published multiple articles and textbook chapters on reproductive disorders and served as an ad hoc editor for fertility and sterility. Dr. Long will continue to provide individualized care, education, and compassionate support to his infertility patients from diagnosis through treatment at ACRM.

Skills and Specialties

In 1996, Dr. Long trained at the London Gynecology and Fertility Centre to learn the techniques of testicular sperm aspiration (TESA), which is a procedure used for male factor infertility. TESA is a nonsurgical, office-based procedure that aspirates a patient’s semen when there is a blockage or obstruction of the vas deferens. The TESA technique and in vitro fertilization have helped many couples achieve pregnancy throughout Dr. Long’s career. He is also highly skilled in ovulation induction, third-party reproduction with donor egg/sperm, intrauterine insemination (IUI), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). Dr. Long has medical privileges at Brookwood Medical Center, St. Vincent’s Birmingham, and the Grandview Medical Center. Additionally, Dr. Long specializes in reproductive surgical procedures.

Education

Originally from Louisiana, Dr. Long received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1984. He was selected for a residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1988. In 1990, he completed his fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. This provided Dr. Long with extensive training in video laser endoscopy, microsurgery, and advanced reproductive techniques.
